[The End 12/13] An Endless Cycle
|| Another year and a half had gone by, and Damien knew he wasn't getting better. If anything, he was getting worse. He'd found a place for him and the kids to stay, and fitted it up with a Fidelius charm with himself as a secret keeper. That very night, he had probably the worst nightmares imaginable. 'I'm waiting for you.' He could hear over and over in his head. Of course she was. And how he longed to join her. There were things he had to do first, though. Watch over the kids as long as he could, and kill Lucedio. Every now and then, he would go outside to get the kid's food, and hunt his own. And every time, he'd run into posters that made things so. much. /worse/. Plastered on the walls of various buildings he'd see posters with his face on it, but that wasn't the only thing. More often than not Chava's face was next to his. They knew, and they believed Chava was still alive. The first time he'd seen the poster, he tore it down, and brought it home, only to tear up over it later. Since then it'd become a habit to tear them off and bring them home. He plaster them up on his walls, and just like the marks on his arm, it served as a reminder. A reminder that Chava was dead. Posters weren't the only things that adorned his walls nowadays. On almost every bit of wall that wasn't covered by wanted posters, there lay a clock, endlessly ticking. Sometimes he would join along, making ticking noises with his mouth, as if he was counting down the seconds to the end of his life. The only time he ever felt normal like usual, was when he was around the kids. They made him sane. Weylin still wasn't speaking, but every now and then, he'd hear voices from around him. Sometimes it was from the posters. sometimes it was from one of the toys he'd given the boy. The voice was always a child's voice. A boy's voice. 'Daddy' It sometimes said. Sometimes 'Rora'. Sometimes 'Ori'. At first it had creeped him out, but then he realized what it was. Weylin was a mute, but Thorne's had old and powerful blood flowing through their veins. That's what gave them their powers. The trouble was they couldn't choose what their power was. And since Weylin was mute, his ability allowed him to speak in a different means. This one day, a year and a half, after the events that transpired at the Manor, Damien was checking on his kids. He knew Weylin was fine, he just couldn't speak. Yet something else was bothering him. The twins were three. Everything that happened in Damien's lifetime, every battle between Damien and Lucedio had started when they were three. When Lucedio took ill, and should have died. Twins of a twin. He worried that the twins would go down the same path he and his brother did. But still he knew the signs. And it terrified him. Aurora had contracted the same disease Lucedio had. "I'm so sorry." He whispered, picking the child up from the crib. Aurora would die and there was nothing he could do about it. He would never do what his parents did, and toss Aurora's mind into Orianna's, so the only option was to watch over Aurora as she died. He remembered back to that dream a year and a half ago, the one that still tormented him even now. He was starting to think he hadn't understood it at first. "You did get to sleep next to me again," she had said, despite the fact that he never did. He hadn't slept at all that night. "I'm still here for you, love. I'm watching over you, waiting" She would get to see Aurora before she saw him. Aurora was who she was waiting for, not him. What had she said so long ago? Don't follow me. He would have to follow her eventually, but Aurora would be there first and it was killing him. Not because he wanted to be the first to see Chava, but because despite the hell Chava had gone through, one of their kids would die, and he couldn't do anything about it. "I'll sleep next to you every night, for the rest of your life. Just stay alive..." Soon it would be both Aurora and Chava watching, waiting. Chava for her husband, and Aurora for her father. "Why does everything bad happen to me?" He cried out, collapsing against the wall, holding Aurora in his arms. Welcome to Hell. Population: One.
